Changing Blog Themes
I love to change the background of my blog to match the seasons and the holidays. I would love to take credit for this gorgeous background but it would be a lie to do this. This beauty came from http://plumroselane-bckgrnds.blogspot.com/2011/09/making-magick-blog-theme.html, complete with headers and tags ( I haven't figured out the tags yet lol). If your in the mood to switch your background, jump over to her site and take a look at her beautiful creations.
My niece is having a baby ( a girl!) and I offered to make the baby shower invitations. I scoured the internet looking at different invitations for inspiration and came across the cutest Onesie Invite, so I went with that theme. I'm trying to do better in giving credit to the people and products that I use in my projects as they definitely deserve the credit. I did not write down all the info for these, so as I remember it.....
The onesie shape was cut from the Cricut using the Cricut Craftroom basic shapes. I used the Craftroom software to "design" it but putting up 2 images, then rotating one of the images and lining it up at the bottom (where the legs would go) and welding it together. I used the Martha Stewart Score Board to score the area and make folding the card easier.

I made the paper lace around the arms and legs using the same cricut cartridge by cutting a scalloped oval frame and running them through the cuttlebug to emboss (I no longer have the packing for the emboss folders so I have no idea what the name of the folder is) tiny roses those areas. The printed paper I used is from two of my favorite paper stacks by DCW - Lace and Linen and the Rustic Stack. I used Studio G ink pad to distress everything, there isn't a name on the container but it's a soft pink. The pocket that holds the information cards was made out of single sheets of pink patterned paper, cut with the Fiskars paper trimmer and edged with a pair of design scissors. The tiny hand-prints and footprints and other stamped images were from cling stamps that I bought from JoAnn's ( my stamps are no longer in the original package so again, I have no idea of the name). I embossed the flaps of the envelopes and attached a little pink paper duck which I also cut from the cricut and tied the whole shebang up with a pink ribbon.
Fall Leaves with the Cricut
I'm finally getting around to putting up some photos of my recent project. I cut this leaf using my cricut (I honestly cannot remember which cartridge), then I used the cuttlebug to emboss it and rubbed Tim Holtz Distress ink and lightly went over the raised areas of the leaf. I just love the look of it.

I was watching You Tube one day when I happened across a video about how to make a paper bag mini album. (there are many, but I was originally inspired by this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXOY3DyFjvQ I thought it was amazing and decided to make one myself as a birthday gift for my daughter's girlfriend. This is my first paper bag mini album. It's also referred to as an "Active" album and I can only imagine that it's because of all the different pockets, wallets, flip fold, etc that it has. Since this is a paper bag mini album, there are pockets where 4 large mats that will hold 6x4 photos insert in each pocket with a total of 3 pockets. These mats are attached to a black and white ribbon and pull out from the side of the album.

A New Quickpage
Here is another digital scrapbook page that I put back together. My sister and I were out at Coal Vines Restaurant at the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri for a wonderful Mother's Day Lunch.
I did not make any of these elements, simply put together some "free to use" digital scrapbook elements together and slipped my photo behind it. The flowers in the corner are from a paintshop pro tube.

Morning at the Market
Here are all 3 of the photos that I had taken put together on a digital scrapbook page. The paper and bird that I used was from a freebie "A Town of Memories" kit designed by Darleen Araujo.

Another example of using Color Splash technique
I went to the Kansas City Market very early one morning, just as the market was opening up. It was a wet, drizzling morning and I thought the market scene at that moment would make some awesome photos. I whipped out my iPhone (haha, didn't have an actual camera with me) and took these photos. I then used the color splash technique (see post directly below this one) and this is what I ended up with. You can tell that in the 3rd photo, the brightness/contrast of the photo is more intense, I adjusted those levels in PSP and I think it actually looks better than the other 2 photos, makes them seem more aged somehow.
First up in my new "Video's for my Sister" series.

Learning New Things
I followed a tutorial for Paintshop Pro that taught me how to turn a colored photograph into a vintage style photo, then to isolate certain parts of that photograph and colorize only those parts. My first attempt at it turned out fairly well.
The actual scrapbook page was another amazing "free to use" find. It's called a "quickpage" because it's already made for you and all you have to do is slip your own photo into the transparent space. This is how all of my digital scrapbook pages were put together. Thanks to all the amazing artist's that off their items to those of us who are not so artistic, much appreciated. I do believe that I got this particular one from Linda-ohwhatfun.blogspot.com

A few more
and here is sweet baby Alice...
One of these days, I am going to learn how to make my own scrapbook papers like these! The ladies that designed these are simply amazing and although I cannot remember who they are, I thank them all.
One of my commenters advised me that I could drag images into images.google.com and find out the originating artist info, so I did and discovered that the top page was made by http://www.scrapbooking101.net/articles/how-to-create-a-baby-album.html and the gorgeous middle page was another one by linda-ohwhatfun.blogspot.com. I'm happy to find some info on these wonderful artists.
Scrapbook is Done!!
Yay! my first digital Scrapbook is done and the couple that it was made for has a new addition to their family - baby Alice Marie Beliles has made her grand entrance. There are so many pages to the album, that I just can't show them all, but here is a nice sampling.
This Quick Page is from http://miriams-scrap.blogspot.com/2012/03/ms-aged-wedding-qp-3.html
I'm not sure if this is actually where I downloaded this quickpage or not, but I'm almost positive that she is artist http://matsscrapbooking.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

The Canning Fairies
As the canning season begins so does the ritual of hunting down the canning jars. Where do the canning jars go in between late Fall and Early Spring? Are there some untold of "Canning Fairies" that sneak around and silently hide the jars one by one so that you never realize they are missing until you need them? Each Spring I go on the hunt for my canning jars and each spring I wonder how, why, when and most importantly - where do my canning jars get off to? Spread across the confines of the basement, tucked into nooks and crannies, dusty shelves and creepy corners are my canning jars in every size, from the tiniest half pints to the largest half gallons. I release my jars from the guardianship of the Canning Fairies and begin the canning season.
Strawberry Jam - oh my!
I start off with enormous strawberries this season, and so delicious, like candy coated delicious, rinse, hull and smash with my potato smasher. The batch is about 6 cups of slightly smashed berries and I know from previous experience to not increase the batch size or the pectin will not hold up. My brilliant sister came up with the idea of researching out a sugar free method of canning strawberries, but after diligent research which ending up reading numerous horror stories of failed batches of sugar free strawberry jam, I decide to scratch the idea and go for full on sugar.
6 cups of smashed berries, 7 cups of sugar and 1 pack of pectin = the amount in the last photos. Strawberries are boiled with a mixture of 1 pack of pectin to 1/4 cup of sugar (leaving 6 3/4 cups of sugar) until stirring doesn't stop it from boiling, then the rest of the sugar is added and brought back to a boil and boiled hard for 1 minute - stirred a few times to keep from burning. The foam is scooped off ( can NEVER get enough of the darn foam off, but it's tasty so no worries). While the berries are boiling, the empty jars are in the canner getting their sterilization bath, along with the bands. The lids are simmering in a small pot on another burner. All of this is removed and using a funnel, I pour the berry mixture into the hot jars, leave a bit of headspace, place the lids and the bands on and back into the boiling water they go. The water must flow freely over all the jars or it doesn't get processed correctly, and there they bob for 10 minutes. Out they come and the next batch goes in.
All done. As you can see from the photos, I forgot to let the boiling berry mixture sit and rest for 5 minutes, not doing so causes the berries to rise in the jars. Not a big deal, I will just stir it down when the jar is opened. I heard the very satisfying "pop" of each lid they seal to the jars and my face smiles!

My Garden Gnomes
I love Garden Gnomes and every spring, I make the trek to the backyard barn and gather up my load of Garden Gnomes, freeing them from winter's storage. Several years ago, I came across a letter from some gnomes that I thought was so funny I never forgot it. Bringing out the gnomes for this years spring placement made me think of the letter and I thought I would share it with you. First, I thought I would share my weed pulling efforts of this morning (which went into mid-afternoon). I cleaned up the side area of the house, pulled the unwanted weeds (The mighty oak tree that shades our yard is a very messy tree) The oak tree has lost it's hair and dropped it's acorns which are trying desperately to plant themselves in my flower beds. Anyway, I relocated some of the Elephant Ear hostas and the Vinca to the side area, hoping that the Vinca actually will completely take over the area and thereby choking out all attempts of the oak tree to recreate itself. I placed a couple of the gnomes in side area and thought about the letter....
A LETTER THAT SEEMS TO BE FROM MY GARDEN GNOMES.
BY MICHAEL KNOX
- - - -
Dear Michael,
We, your Garden Gnomes, have decided that it is time we let you know the truth: We are alive. This is not a prank. We have been concealing ourselves for some time but have decided, after much examination, since you mercilessly creamed your little nephew in that Cool Whip fight (sorry about the pun) that you are our kind of guy.
We know that this must seem a like a joke of some sort, but we assure you that we are alive and in order to persuade you, we have compiled a list of facts that no one but us could know:
Firstly, we know that you think it was neighborhood delinquents who have been sneaking in here and rearranging us. The truth is that we just can’t remember what order you put us in after we have our little parades around the backyard all night. Also, Snuffnuff (the one with the accordion), who you found broken in the street out front, was not stolen by those hypothetical delinquents whom we remember you cursing (and we could hear you all the way back here, we thought you should know). He was hit by a pick-up truck while crossing the street to see if those tacky flamingos rented by your neighbor for his fiftieth birthday could talk or not. We still don’t know if they can.

Secondly, we know about the talk you and Clara had last week about the state of your relationship. We thought you should know that she did a lot of eye rolling and hand puppet jabbering when you weren’t looking. We think she’s a flake and we don’t like her.
Thirdly, it was us who ate the peanuts you left out here a few nights ago. We heard you grumbling about the mess we left of the shells too, and how you thought it was squirrels. Sorry. We like peanuts and we figured you were too wasted to remember if you’d devoured them and thrown the shells all over the place or not.
Fourthly, we see you pee out here all the time.
Fifthly, we know about the pirate costume incident and it was us who disposed of it for you, so you can relax. You’re welcome, and for the love of God we hope that wasn’t what it smelled like. If it was, we suggest wearing a diaper at the next costume kegger.
Sixthly, we’re getting a little tired of Clara’s hokey enthusiasm for chi and her chi-related complaints about this garden. We may just be Garden Gnomes, but that stuff’s a load of crap.
Seventhly, Puffruff (the one with the wheelbarrow) would like to complain that your little nephew kicked him over during the righteous slathering. The rest of us like your little nephew, and would like to say that Puffruff is something of a whiny little bitch sometimes. With the exception of Puffruff we would all like to see more whipped cream related activities out here.
We think that should just about cover it, Michael. We’re sure that you’re still skeptical about either the veracity of this letter or your mental health right now. We apologize. The point is: We just want to be friends. If you do too, bring beer and little glasses out into the backyard right now. We love drinking contests and after your birthday we know you do too.
Hoping you are pleasantly surprised,
Your Garden Gnomes.
Colorful Surprises
The first year that we moved into our new home, we found out that we had some really great neighbors. Tom and Joann Simpson, an elderly couple who live on the East side of us. Tom was incredible with his 10 very green fingers and insisted that I take some of his Vinca vine and plant it in one of our raised flower beds. I was very reluctant because it was a vine after all and we all know what vines do. Well, I did plant it and it did grow and it spread and it spread and it spread. It's is a very beautiful vine, green and white and very hardy. Sadly enough, Tom passed away two years later and every time I see the Vinca I think very fondly of him. Today, I thought I saw a splash of purple in the flower bed where the Vinca has overrun and I walked over to check it out. Wow, was I ever surprised to see that the Vinca flowers! I had no idea, beautiful medium size purple flowers. I lifted my face toward the sky and said a silent "Thank you" to Tom, because without his insistence, I wouldn't have this because upright vine and pretty flowers to grace my yard.
Birthday Cake!
To celebrate my husband's birthday, I decided to make him a chocolate cake. But not just any ole chocolate cake.. a completely homemade DARK chocolate cake ( no cake box in sight). This was my first attempt at making a chocolate cake, I've done others so I was feeling confident. Then I thought....peanut butter filling would be spectacular and I didn't stop there, oh no not I....lets add a Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Fudge frosting (all homemade of course)... can you say yum?
The cake ended up being much larger than I realized it would be and it took much longer to make lol. The cake was quick, it was that fudge frosting that took ages. I have to cook the chocolate then let it sit in the fridge for 90 minutes, then let it come to room temperature for another 90 minutes, yikes. But it was worth it.
The Tree is ALIVE!
Last year, my wonderful brother-in-law "trimmed" the only ornamental tree I have on our entire property for me. The tree really was overgrown and it obscured the entire front porch and he sounded so very confident in his tree trimming abilities that I said " go for it!".
Well.... the tree looked pretty pitiful when he was done and struggled the rest of the year, to my utter amazement (and my sister's!) the tree decided to live after all and it's beautiful!

Another day, another page!
I didn't use any cool techniques on this page, but it isn't a "quick page" either. I love the colors that were supplied with the kit and I really need to write down where I get these kits and stuff from, I would like to give credit to the artist. Anyway, I thought the tassel hanging from the top right of the journal card is so cute.

Back to scrapbooking!
This is another quickpage that I found on the internet and I know that I've already cropped these photos, but I wanted to show the effect that I just learned. This is 3 photos that I've "blended" into one and I think it's pretty cool!
Many thanks to Kimberly White of Wonderland Scraps at http://freequickpage.com For her work on the original design of the Shabby Tuscan layout (teal frames) and Pink Roses quickpage. I must apologize to all the other artists who designed the original quick pages for not giving them all kudos, it's really just a lack of care on my part for not writing things down. If any Artist stumbles upon the site and see their wonderful work here, please drop a comment and I will be sure to give credit where credit is due.
and these are some others that I've put together using quickpages that I downloaded from the internet. I will try to go back and figure out where I found all of these amazing pages and edit my posts to reflect those locations as I find them. Thanks.
